The meeting will take place in Jekteviksbakken 31. A light lunch and coffee will be served. You can also follow the event on Zoom.

Right now, Afghanistan is facing the worst drought in decades. Together with the Taliban takeover and increasing wheat prices following the war in Ukraine, this has led to 10 million people living close to famine.

In this lunch seminar, we will discuss climate change in Afghanistan, including the evidence and possible mitigation measures, the food security impact, and the connection to migration amongst other things.

Our panel has extensive experience from Afghanistan, and will bring fresh research into the discussion, including on the impact mitigation efforts can have, how the Afghan people cope and adapt to the situation, and what we as international organizations can do.

Panel:
Najib Kakar, Geohazards Scientist at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam
Arne Strand, Senior Researcher at CMI
Gry Synnevåg, Associated Professor at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.

The event is part of International Week in Bergen and is organised in collaboration with the Norwegian Afghanistan Committee.
